Operation Encompass

Our settings are part of The Operation Encompass initiative that is run between the Local Authority, Schools/Nurseries, and Cheshire Police. 

This initiative has been designed to provide early reporting of any domestic violence incidents that occur within a child’s home, that a child may have seen, heard, or been involved in.  

This is done through a phone call Cheshire police to the setting.

Each of our settings has a Key Adult, who is trained on Operation Encompass and how to use any information shared, in confidence.

It is our aim to support each child who has been involved in, or witnessed, a domestic abuse incident. 

In the event we receive an Encompass call the key adult for each setting will inform the child’s key person, to ensure they are readily available to support in a way best suited for the child.  In most cases, silent support is the most beneficial, keeping a closer eye on them and making sure they enjoy a nice calm nursery day. The confidential information is ordinarily not shared with all staff, just the information needed to ensure the child receives the correct support. 

The Key Adult may contact other organisations if felt necessary to do so for the safety of the child.  This is outlined in the settings safeguarding policy.

The sharing of information from the Police allows us to be ready to help your child straight away, and it means that parents are aware that the Key Adult knows that something has happened.  Parents can come and talk to our Key Adults at any time.  

The Key Adult can point you towards other people that can help, and it is our aim to support you.
