Day Nursery Curriculum

Curriculum

The Early Years curriculum is compulsory in all childcare settings and comprises developmental programmes in seven areas of learning.

These seven areas include three prime areas these are:

  • Communication and Language,
  • Physical Development,
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The specific areas of learning include:

  • Literacy,
  • Mathematics,
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The prime areas are the essential foundations for learning which if supported and developed well will allow all children to access fully a wide range of learning experiences which will prepare them fully for school life. It is our intention at Roundabouts Day Nursery to ensure that all children make the best progress and we will shape our learning experiences to respond to the interests of our children. We also value the contribution that parents make to their child’s learning and would encourage you to share your child’s interests and developments at home so that we can use this to develop their learning further.

Each child has their own little book and parents are encouraged to take these books home and spend a little time with their child reflecting on their weekend activities and their daily home lives. This gives the key workers vital information which allows them to make a clear link between nursery and home. These books are used at group times where each child is encouraged to talk about their weekend and home life with the other children. This helps to encourage all areas of development, especially communication and language skills. The children enjoy talking, listening and learning about their friends lifestyles and this also supports the staff with planning activities that enhance each child’s learning. The Early Years Foundation Stage is built upon four principles which underpin the entire practise at Roundabouts.

  • We value every child as Unique.
  • We endeavour to provide an Enabling Environment allowing children to access resources of interest both inside and out.
  • All staff, pupils and parents develop extremely Positive Relationships and this is a key strength of our nursery.
  • Learning and Development is at the heart of everything that we do, we want the best for every single child in our care and we ensure that highly qualified committed staff provide well planned play based learning experiences to achieve this.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) principles are designed to celebrate the importance of play and learning, by putting the child back at the heart of early years practice. This philosophy is in perfect harmony with Roundabouts and we look forward to providing the best for you and your child.
